Studio Design 2010 - Application Management

Studio Design 2010 allows the user to enter in room dimensions of length, width, height
and the reverb response for the room. It calculates all the modal frequencies for axial, tangial, oblique modes
and graphs the results for easy to see modal spacing and mode buildups.
In graph mode, the user can
tweak the room dimensions to optimize the modal spacing and build-ups.
In material mode, the user can
optimize acoustic materials for desired room reverb response.
The program allows the user to save, edit, and delete projects and rooms. Open a new project and room

When you run Studio Design 2010 for the first time you can get started right away by entering your
dimensions or by clicking the Open Project menu option. Open a project by first selecting from the
project dropdown list, then select a room name. The projects data will fill in and your ready to work!

Opening a studio project
Choose a project name and the rooms will show
in the room dropdown list

The project list contains a Best Known Ratios
project with 6 popular room ratios.

Choose one to begin and change the room
dimensions to smooth out the room resonant
modal spacing

Use the ratio calculator to upsize or
downsize the room dimensions!

The example demonstrated throughout this site
is New Abbey Road and Studio 2A has been
selected.

Saving a studio project
From the main screen select Save Project from
the top menu. The program enters the current
project and room name or will be blank if it
is a new project.
• Save the current project and room changes
• Save with new room name of current project
• Save with a new project and new room name
• Program detects a new record or update

Deleting a studio project
Users can delete a project and all rooms saved
with it or delete rooms within a project. From
the main menu select Delete then choose
either Delete Project or Delete Room.
Click the red icon to remove the project.

Deleting a studio room
Users can delete a room belonging any project
from the main menu. Select Delete and then
Delete Room. First choose the project and
then the room. All information will be deleted

Acoustic Materials Database functions.
This screen is available by clicking the Acoustic Materials main menu option. This screen provides
the ability to add, edit, and delete acoustic materials from the database provided with this application.

Acoustic Materials database options:
• Create and assign supplier references and document source of coefficients
• Create and assign custom Categories to acoustic materials
• Create and assign custom Frequency Band types to acoustic materials
• Edit any acoustic material in the database
• Add new acoustic materials into the database
• Select an existing material, edit coefficients and save as a custom material

Adding new acoustic materials.
If there is a acoustic material in the database that is simuliar to one you want at add, then begin typing
into the Select an Acoustic Material to Edit dropdown list box. It will sort alphanumeric. When you
find what you want, the screen will update with the acoustic materials data entries.

• If you wish to edit an existing material, select it from the list and click the Edit button
• If you wish to add a new material, click the Add button and enter the required information
• To copy a material, click the Add button, select from materials list, and make the changes

Make any changes to the material name and coefficients of absorption. Also make selections for the category
and Frequency Band. Click the save button when done.

Assigning a category will allow filtering by category when performing sabines and reverb acoustic analysis.
Quickly find materials for Walls or Floors, etc.
Assigning a Frequency Band type also aids in filtering when choosing acoustic materials for your recording
studio. Select only low band materials to see those with highest coefficients of absorption at 125hz.

To add your own suppliers, categories, or frequency band types click the edit button to enable the fields
and controls.
To add a new entry to any of these, just begin typing in the dropdown list text field. The example above
shows "my category" and "my band". Click the save button when done. You may also delete a supplier, freq.
type, or category by selecting one from its dropdown list and clicking the delete button. Be careful, this
will require re-assigning materials associated with the deleted entry.
